Fun things to do in March
On February 27, 2025 by Calgary's ChildTrying to find a way to entertain the kids during the last days of winter? Eagerly anticipating warmer spring days? It can be challenging to find things the whole family wants to do during this slushy shoulder season.
Here are some exciting (and educational) ways to get out and enjoy the city this month.
Bow Habitat Station Discovery Days
Every month, you can immerse yourself in theatrical programming, community partners, and activities that go beyond the Bow-ordinary at Bow Habitat Station. From fins to feathers, roots to trees, the Discovery Centre and Aquariums unlocks a world of exploration and registering for Discover Days ensures exciting hands-on activities that show how water makes the world go ’round. Learn more at bowhabitat.alberta.ca.
Sunday Fundays
Join the Calgary Wranglers or Calgary Hitmen for Sunday Fundays at the Dome. With family friendly prices, family friendly food offers, and family friendly entertainment you are not going to want to miss Sunday Funday. The West Concourse Family Fun Zone Presented by Deerfoot City includes face painting, sign making and coloring, a photobooth, family games, and more for your kids to enjoy before the big game.
March Break Movies
There is no better way to spend an afternoon off school than at the movie theatre! Learn more at cineplex.com.
Visit The Confluence
The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland is a destination for locals to find a sense of identity and connection to the land they live on, and where you can learn the stories and cultures of this special place. With regular events like film screenings, workshops, fireside stories, tours, skating and more, there is never a dull moment at The Confluence. Learn more at theconfluence.ca.
Board Game Cafes
Family game night is a great way to have fun and spend time bonding. If you are looking for a change of scenery from your living room, check out one of Calgary’s board game cafes where you can have a drink or snack and try a game you haven’t played before. Put your skills to use at Y Not Today Board Game and Bingsu Cafe, Shoe Box Games and Cafe, or Hexagon Board Game Cafe.
Go Out for Dinner (on the Cheap!)
It is getting harder and harder to afford a meal out these days but sometimes you just can’t stand to make supper at home one more time. Luckily, there are several restaurants in town that offer up deals for families on certain days of the week. Search the website of your favourite kid-friendly restaurant or give them a call to see if they offer a discount on certain days or times.
Little Red Reading House
Little Red Reading House is a place where children discover the magic of reading and families discover the joy of reading together. It’s a real house, full of books, in the charming neighbourhood of Inglewood where you can book a time to find a cozy nook to curl up in and read independently, or enjoy a story read aloud by the House Hosts. At the end of your visit, each child can choose a book to take home and keep. Learn more at shop.littleredreading.house.
