Undeck the Halls
On January 3, 2020 by Calgary's Childprovided by Sencillo Cabinets
Once January rolls around, most of us have started taking down our holiday decorations and packing up the tree for another year. However, before you do, we urge you to take inventory, decide what you love, and declutter the rest. Life’s too short to hold onto things that merely take up space. Make room for more of what you love and less of what you don’t!
As you start to declutter your holiday decor, break out the eggnog and ask yourself these five questions.
- Does it bring me joy?
The answer is simple: yes or no? Don’t hem and haw over it. If yes, pack it away for another year. If not, your preloved decor will probably spark joy for someone else. Off to the second-hand store, it goes! - Did I use this item this year?
We hate to break it to you, but if you didn’t use it this Christmas, you’re probably not going to use it next year. Pack up your untouched items and place them in the donate box. - Am I holding onto duplicates?
Who needs multiple tablecloths, cocoa mugs, garlands and wreaths? Not you! Pick your favourites and let go of the rest. - Is this adding stress to the holidays?
Are you tired of hanging your string lights every year? Switch to a more convenient alternative, like swapping your porch bulb out for something colourful, or opting for festive projection lights instead. - Will I ever use this, really?
Be real with yourself. Are you holding onto things only because they are sentimental? And do you really need that crushed bow at the bottom of the wrapping paper bin?
