June 20 to 25; Aboriginal Awareness Week Family Day Festival and Powwow, join AAWC and partners for this week-long celebration of events that promote pride, understanding and awareness of Aboriginal cultures, traditions, contributions and achievements to Canadian society. Since 2011, the week leading up to National Aboriginal Day, June 21, is known locally as Aboriginal Awareness Week Calgary or AAWC. June 22 to 26, Sled Island, since 2007, Sled Island’s thoughtful, eclectic programming and independent spirit have produced a one-of-a-kind festival experience. Each June, the five-day music and arts festival brings together a community of music, comedy, film and art as well as over 40,000 attendees across multiple venues, earning rave reviews from attendees, artists and media across the globe. June 23 to 24, 10am to 8pm; Indigenous Awareness Week Artisan Market, celebrate Indigenous culture while supporting local businesses at our Southcentre Mall’s Aboriginal Awareness Week Artisan Market on June 23 and 24. The artisan market will showcase nine unique Indigenous vendors in partnership with Authentically Indigenous. The two-day event will begin with an opening ceremony, which will include an opening prayer, blessing from elder Dian EagleSpeaker and a traditional dance performance. June 23 to 27; Parade of Planets, at the end of June, you can see all five planets visible with the naked eyes aligned together in the sky. Coined a ‘Planet Parade,’ this alignment is not a common occurrence. If you look up in the dawn sky, you can see these planets aligned and positioned in their original order from the Sun: bright Mercury, brightest Venus, reddish Mars, very bright Jupiter and the yellowish Saturn.
June 24, 4pm to 10pm; Calgary Night Market, supporting local vendors, artisans, entrepreneurs and designers to showcase their talent in a fun and safe place. A night of fun shopping with friends and family. This is a culturally diverse market that sells handmade and local goods. Indulge in delicious street foods and more. The market is located at Bridgeland Riverside Community Association (917 Centre Avenue NE).
June 24 to 26, 5pm to 12am; The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival, now more than ever, people need to laugh, people need an escape, people need to be together again. The vision of The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival is and will always be to create a diverse, inclusive and safe festival experience that celebrates and features all forms of performance comedy, from locals to superstars. June 25, 10am to 3pm; Tri-Services Show and Shine at YouthLink, the Calgary Police Service, the Calgary Fire Museum, and the EMS Foundation are teaming up to bring you one truly unique and free outdoor event, where you’ll find First Responder vintage cars, trucks, and specialty vehicles on display, representing EMS, CFD, and CPS. June 25; Okotoks BuskersFest, musicians, actors, magicians, jugglers, street performers, dancers, b-boys, singers and entertainers of all ages and acts are spread throughout the streets of downtown Okotoks for this fun street festival. June 11 to September 3; Junior Fishing Clinic at Bow Habitat Station, cast your line into the world of fishing for the first time in an introductory, hands-on clinic designed for families with kids ages four to 12. This clinic will use classroom-based activities, as well as the Fish Hatchery and Discovery Centre aquariums to teach you how to fish responsibly by understanding Alberta’s sportfishing regulations, proper fish handling techniques, identifying different sportfish, and much more. Until October 27; National Music Centre’s Jam Club, join the National Music Centre’s free after-school Jam Club program. Youth ages thirteen to nineteen are invited to jam, practice their skills, and explore their creative potential, all while making new friends, every Thursday at Studio Bell for free.
