September 30, 9:30am to 2:30pm; Pokaiks Commemorative Walk & IndigiTRAILS – Remembering Our Children, Colouring It Forward Reconciliation Society and the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth are proud to present the fourth annual Pokaiks Commemorative Walk & IndigiTRAILS – Remembering Our Children event, sometimes referred to as the Orange Shirt Day Walk on Prince’s Island. September 30, 10 am and 2pm; Orange Shirt Day Events at Fort Calgary, at 10am, commemorate Indian residential school victims, honor survivors and their families, and commit to acting on reconciliation. Starting at 2pm, take a free walking tour where you will confront the colonial history of Fort Calgary, discuss the ongoing work to decolonize the stories, and share insights about what we have learned about reconciliation so far. September 30, 12pm to 4pm; Indigenous Awareness – The Blanket Exercise, The Blanket Exercise is an experiential exercise that looks at the lived experience of Indigenous people within Canadian history. September 30, 6pm; Every Child Matters Traditional Powwow, in partnership with Siksika Health Services and the Calgary Hitmen; admission to the Scotiabank Saddledome is free with the donation of a non-perishable food item or article of winter clothing. September 30, 7pm; New Blood – A Story of Reconciliation, a widely acclaimed theatre production featuring poetry, music, and contemporary and traditional dance. The show is inspired by the life of Chief Vincent Yellow Old Woman and it’s about his experience as a child in a residential school, how he reclaimed his way of life, and how he became chief of his people. September 30, 7:30pm; An Evening of Mètis Music and Conversation, Métis musicians Richard Piche and Billy Joseph will serenade guest with their songs and melodies at the Lougheed House. September 30; Orange Shirt Day Indigenous Art Tours, in recognition of Orange Shirt Day/National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Nickle Galleries and artist Adrian Stimson are offering a tour of three Indigenous Art exhibits. In the Nickle Galleries, participants will be guided through the Prairie Interlace exhibit as well as Adrian Stimson’s solo exhibition. There will also be a tour of the new, permanent Indigenous Art Collection on display throughout the Taylor Family Digital Library and an opportunity to view digital displays on the second floor. October 1; The Calgary Phil Presents I Rise, a collaboration between the Calgary Phil and Pink Flamingo on the Black Lives Matter Murals Project, two vastly different artistic cultures collide.
