July 7, 9am; Calgary Stampede Parade, each year the parade showcases more than 150 western-themed entries, including 30 marching bands, 40 floats, 750 horses and 4,000 people. July 8 to 9; Family Fishing Weekends Alberta, Family Fishing Weekends are offered twice a year in Alberta – during the Family Day weekend and during National Fishing Week in the summer.

Until July 9; Spruce Meadows North American, the ‘North American’, presented by Rolex, is a celebration of the close ties between the horse and the military. The pounding hooves of the competitors are amplified by the marching cadence of the military celebrations. The pageantry of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) 100 Man Guard as they perform the Feu de Joie ceremony on Saturday and Sunday is spectacular when we Salute our Heroes. Until July 31; G’ddy Up! | Group Exhibition, Newzones Gallery announces the return of “G’ddy Up!”, an annual rotating group exhibition that coincides with the Calgary Stampede. “G’ddy Up!” will survey how Newzones’ artists explore contemporary cowboy culture, and how they implement aspects of this culture in formal practices through painting, photography, mixed media, and sculpture.
